Simulated Bodies: Nature as Flesh, Clay as Thought
presents a series of ceramic sculptures that explore the metaphorical slippage between the organic body and the natural world. Here, clay becomes more than a material—it operates as a thinking structure, encoding not only form but concept. Through surfaces that evoke roots, shells, and branches, the works imagine the body as landscape and the landscape as body. Drawing on Max Black’s interaction theory of metaphor and Gombrich’s insights into visual interpretation, they question how perception constructs the illusion of coherence—of “bodiness”—even when matter itself speaks of transformation and uncertainty.
